Mom desperately needs resources and I need respite. She was assessed back in October of 2013 for resources. We were suppose to get resources to come in and help out with her so I can go to work. She has an open case since I last checked on Friday. Why does it take so long for Agency on aging to send me some help. It has been a little over 2 months. This is an urgent matter. Mom has Vascular dementia stage 5. Who can I call to over ride Agency on aging, they are not moving fast enough. I am going to lose my job, I am stressed out. Can anyone please answer my question. TY

Look into FMLA for your work, they have to give you 12 weeks off protected if you are full time in most jobs. Your Dr will have to fill out a form but its not hard and I have never had a problem. You get paid from your leave, and if you run out you will not get paid but your job is protected

If you called your county office on aging, they are probably on a very tight budget. You could help them by calling your county legislator and ask for greater funding in their budget for 2014.

Two months seems too long. It's such a pain when bureaucracies that are supposed to help just make more work for you.

Call the office for aging and ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. Ask them when you will get help. Ask what the steps are to move the process along, who has to do each step, and how long the step should take. Then manage that checklist with frequent calls.

If the supervisor doesn't help, ask for their supervisor.

If that doesn't help, call a local politician. If the one you call can't help, they can tell you which one to call instead.

If you don't mind making a public fuss, especially if the agency tells you that a lot of cases are backed up, call a TV station in your area that does investigative consumer work. They might like to make the backlog public. A TV station here took the case of a guy who got a ridiculously high water bill and uncovered a billing software problem at the city-owned utility company that affected hundreds.

FYI, FMLA leave is unpaid, although you can use your vacation, sick time, and comp time for as long as it lasts.
