I am 61, with Parkinson's. Due to being hospitalized, I am currently living with family. Since I cannot afford to pay for LTC for more than about 2 yrs, I have been liquidating my assets and putting the proceeds in my savings acct. My current understanding is that I should get admitted into a nursing home when I need to do so, and apply for medicaid from the nursing home when my assets are "spent down" to $2000 or less. I also understand that I can use some of my assets to pay for funeral arrangements.

I just visited the website and it seems you are in the DC metro area too. Please let me know how you like the firm and what their rate is per hour. Thank you.

I agree with Vegaslady. Spend some of the money you have now on an eldercare attorney who can show you how to get qualified for Medicaid. It is complicated, so don't try to do it alone.
