Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Check for bedsores or bruising. Find out the area of pain, is it tailbone, lower back or in the hip joint? I think you might want some input from the MD who repaired the hip. He can write an Rx for the appropriate style of cushion.
I assume she had PT and follow-up x-rays by the doctor who performed surgery? If neither, she should get an x-ray pretty soon to ensure that the surgery resulted in proper healing.
Is she uncomfortable when sitting on padded seats or just thinner seats?
As Pam points out, the area in which she experiences discomfort is important as well, especially to determine if there's residual pain from the fracture or some other issue totally unrelated to the surgery.
Does she exericse, even a little? Get up, move about, go out for walks? Sometimes stiffness from inactivity can cause discomfort to the point that it's painful.
Does her diet include anti-inflammatory foods, such as the red and blue fruits and veggies? Grapes are in season now; they've helped me a lot.
Don't ignore her discomfort. Have the doctor or visiting nurse carefully examine her butt for the beginnings of a skin ulcer. Believe me!!! You don't want her to get those. Lordy. Don't skimp on a cushion. You can buy them for $30 or so -- but they're less than worthless. Buy a high-end cushion. If skin ulcers are the problem, you need to act quickly.
If the problem sitting is from bone pain or joint discomfort, then make an appointment with the surgeon. She may need more physical therapy. Very important.
Maggie's post reminded me that we looked at foam at Jo-ann's Fabric when we were planning on wrapping Dad's walker in foam to protect him if he fell.
Jo-ann's has soft cushions used for pillows but also has more sturdy foam that can be purchased at size or in larger sizes, cut, and doubled to make extra sturdy cushions.
You don't even need to sew it together; put plush fabric over it to help keep Mom's tushy warm. Subsitute for lighter weight fabric if it becomes too warm.
