My mother has dementia and has lost the ability to control her bodily functions and unfortunately she has light oatmeal colored carpeting. I would like to replace the soiled nasty carpeting with some laminate flooring which is much easier to maintain and clean up and keep the apartment somewhat odor-free also I would like to install a walk-in shower ( she owns a small one-bedroom condo ) which entails having the tub removed because she can no longer get in and out of the tub. My question is will this be an allowable expense regarding Medicaid look-back. Eventually we may have to look into memory care or nursing home for her.

Your best bet would be to call your local Medicaid office and ask them. They can tell you if this is an allowable expense. If mom isn't already wearing them, get her into some incontinence briefs. Just call them underwear if she protests, and not "diapers".
