My Mom went into the nursing home private pay. When she ran out of savings, we applied for Medicaid. She was approved and has been on it for one year. I inadvertently let her checking account go over the minimum by accident by about $200. We had to reapply and since then they have requested bank records for 2-3 years plus receipts for any transactions over $200. I am at my witts end! We have done everything legally and not tried to hide any money like I've heard many do. I've tried to keep receipts, but after she was approved the first time, I had no idea we would have to reapply every year. I submitted the bank statements which was a big headache, but did not include the receipts. She was denied again. She is 90 years old, a very fine lady, a very sweet and quiet lady. I am so stressed in all my dealings with the nursing home and now not getting approval for her. It seems every time you submit what they want, they then ask for more paperwork. What am I to do if I don't have all the receipts? Our family is not able to take her home and care for her nor private pay for her. I feel sick to my stomach. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice or knowledge.

Find Care & Housing
Call Medicaid directly. There is likely some crossed wires between the nursing home and Medicaid and what they need. Each case worker I have spoken with has been (mostly) very helpful.

I've had no luck talking to the Medicaid reps that answer the phones. Very frustrating.
